The drug is metabolized by biotransformations such as phase extraction, hydrolysis, sulfation, glucuronidation, and conjugation with glucuronic acid or methyl glucuronide. 4α-Hydroxystanozolol binds to sex hormone receptors and inhibits the production of luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. This may lead to decreased levels of testosterone and sperm production.
