Aflatoxicol is an inhibitor of the enzyme epoxidase that inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS are known to play a role in the development of structural heart disease and congestive heart failure. Aflatoxicol has been shown to inhibit the production of ROS in vitro by binding to the active site of cytochrome P450 enzymes. This compound also binds to DNA, which may be due to its genotoxic activity. Aflatoxicol has been tested on human immunoglobulin and showed no adverse effects. The drug is not toxic for humans because it does not bind to human proteins.
