Description:5-(N,N-Dimethyl)amiloride hydrochloride (5-DMA) is a cell factor that belongs to the class of diuretics. It prevents the accumulation of fluid in the body by increasing water excretion by the kidneys. 5-DMA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may be useful in treating inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease. 5-DMA is also used as a chemotherapeutic agent against various types of cancer, including carcinoma cell lines and leukemia cells. It is believed that this drug inhibits cancerous cells from multiplying by interfering with DNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
