Description:Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is used for the treatment of depression. It has also been found to relieve and manage symptoms of anxiety, eating disorders and OCD. Citalopram targets serotonin by inhibiting its reuptake in the synaptic cleft. In vitro studies demonstrate that citalopram is a strong and selective inhibitor of neuronal serotonin reuptake and has weak effects on norepinephrine and dopamine central reuptake. .
