Description:Metoclopramide is a para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) derivative, which as a prokinetic and antiemetic agent, can be used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting, stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and gastroparesis. Metoclopramide hydrochloride has been shown to be a Dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist, thus preventing in the gastrointestinal smooth muscle, dopamine mediated relaxation. As a result the smooth muscle becomes more responsive to cholinergic stimulation.
