Penicillic acid is a chemical compound that is used as a fungicide, bactericide, and insecticide. It is an organic molecule that has the chemical formula CH3C6H4O2. Penicillic acid can be found in plants and fungi, including lichens. Penicillic acid can be extracted from these sources using acetate extract or etoac extract. The fluorescence of penicillic acid was observed by adding a fluorescent derivative to the solution. The fluorescence is due to the excitation of electrons from the lower energy levels to higher levels. Penicillic acid has been shown to have genotoxic effects when exposed at sublethal doses in vitro and genotoxic activity in vivo.
