Description:Sitagliptin is a drug that can be used to treat type 2 diabetes. This drug increases the production of an incretin hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) by stimulating the GLP-1 receptor. Sitagliptin is used in combination with metformin or a thiazolidinedione to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin has been shown to improve postprandial blood glucose levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. It also reduces the incidence of myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes who are already at high risk for these conditions.
