SHP099 is a small molecule with inhibitory properties that has been shown to reduce the severity of liver steatosis, metabolic disorders, and hepatic inflammation. SHP099 has been shown to be effective in mouse models of bowel disease, including inflammatory bowel disease and colitis. It may also be useful for treating other diseases where epidermal growth factor receptor activation is present, such as psoriasis and skin cancer. SHP099 binds to the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in the brain, which activates the Toll-like receptor 4 pathway, leading to an increase in inflammatory cytokines.
