BRL 42715 is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the penicillin-binding protein, which prevents bacterial cell wall synthesis and thus inhibits cell division. BRL 42715 has been shown to be effective against a type strain of coli K-12. It has been shown to have no detectable activity against human serum or penicillin-binding protein preparations from clinical use. The fluoroquinolone antibiotic BRL 42715 was found to inhibit lactamase in vitro, although it has not been tested in vivo. Computational methods have also demonstrated that this drug binds to the enzyme preparation containing lactamase.
