Jasplakinolide is a drug that has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against human colorectal adenocarcinoma and other carcinoma cell lines. This drug inhibits the proliferation of cells by binding to actin, which is an important component of the cytoskeleton. Jasplakinolide also prevents the formation of new blood vessels in tumors and may be useful as an inhibitor for drugs used in chemotherapy. It interacts with polymers that are biocompatible, such as polyethylene glycols and polymers of lactic acid and glycolic acid. The biological properties of jasplakinolide are similar to those found in natural substances, such as cytochalasin B, which disrupts the function of microtubules.
