U93631 is a subunit that belongs to the group of convulsants. It is a competitive antagonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and has been shown to be effective against nervous system diseases such as epilepsy. The agonist muscimol, which binds to the GABA-A receptor, has been shown to have nootropic properties in rat models. U93631 inhibits 5-HT3a receptors and modulates α-subunit expression. This drug also has metabolic effects and can be used for the treatment of metabolic disorders such as obesity or diabetes.
