2-[(5-Mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio]acetic acid (MTTSA) is a fluorescent probe that emits light at a wavelength of 590 nm when irradiated with light. MTTSA has been synthesized using gold nanoclusters as the catalyst. The average diameter of the nanoclusters was determined to be in the range of 2.0 - 3.0 nm, and their average quantum yield was found to be 0.097%. The emission wavelengths can be tuned by varying the size of the nanoclusters. When MTTSA is irradiated with UV radiation, it undergoes photocatalysis and converts organic matter into water and carbon dioxide gas.
