Product Information
Perakine is a chiral drug that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to cell surface receptors and blocking the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Perakine also has a potent cytotoxic effect on cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis. Perakine is an indole alkaloid molecule that was discovered in roots of Plectranthus barbatus. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and can induce root formation in tissue culture. The chemical diversity of perakine has been investigated using x-ray diffraction data and nmr spectra. Perakine can be synthesized from sodium citrate and dry weight (β-unsaturated ketones) through a reaction with peracetic acid (chemical diversity). The chemical diversity of perakine has been investigated using x-ray diffraction data, nmr spectra, and tissue cultures.
