2-Chloro-5-nitro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole is a modification of the quinazoline nucleus, which is a potent and selective antagonist of the H2 receptor. 2-Chloro-5-nitro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole has been shown to be an antagonist of the αH2 receptor, inhibiting gastric acid secretion and reducing gastric acidity. It also has been shown to inhibit the release of gonadotropins and testosterone in male rats. In addition, it inhibits the activity of various hormone receptors such as benzodiazepine, histamine H1 and muscarinic receptors.
2-Chloro-5-nitro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole has been shown to have a number of profiles that are either agonistic or antagonistic depending on its binding site.
