It also has anti-proliferative effects on cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA replication by binding to the beta subunit of DNA gyrase. 5-BIEC is currently being studied as a potential anticancer drug for the treatment of breast cancer, colon cancer, and leukemia.
