5-Bromoindole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (5-BIEC) is a carboxamide antibiotic that inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria, including pneumoniae. 5-BIEC has been shown to have an inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.9 μM against Escherichia coli and other gram negative bacteria.
