Bisphenol A is an oxime that inhibits the activity of the enzyme catalytic reduction. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of androgen synthesis in vitro. Bisphenol A can also inhibit the function of glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, which is involved in glycerol metabolism. The inhibition of this enzyme can lead to a decrease in ATP production and cause hypoglycemia.
The molecule has been found to be a strong inhibitor of the adapter protein domain, which binds to the alpha subunit of DNA polymerase II and prevents it from binding with DNA. This leads to transcriptional arrest, preventing RNA polymerase II from transcribing mRNA molecules.
