Product Information

Name:
(15R)-Bimatoprost
Synonyms:
  • (5Z)-7-[(1R,2R,3R,5S)-3,5-Dihydroxy-2-[(1E,3R)-3-hydroxy-5-phenyl-1-penten-1-yl]cyclopentyl]-N-ethyl-5-heptenamide
Description:

(15R)-Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that is used to treat glaucoma. It is an esterification of the corresponding acid with 15-deoxy-Δ12,14-prostaglandin J2 (PGD2), which is a metabolite of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α). The esterification reaction requires an alcohol, such as methanol or ethanol, and a carboxylic acid chloride to react with the PGD2. This synthesis can be accomplished using a convergent approach that involves one or more reagents, including phenylsulfone and olefination. Other analogues of bimatoprost include travoprost and latanoprost.
