This chemical is also an inhibitor of enzyme activity, including aminopeptidase, carboxypeptidase, and dipeptidase. 2-Chloro-5-hydroxypyridine has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by binding to the α subunit of protein kinase C (PKC). The gene product for PKCα is histidine rich and can be synthesized chemically. 2-Chloro-5-hydroxypyridine also inhibits glutamate release from nerve terminals by blocking NMDA receptors.
