Description:Calcium oxalate monohydrate is a calcium salt of oxalic acid. It is used as a pharmacological treatment for hyperoxaluria to lower the level of oxalates in the urine, which can develop into kidney stones. Calcium oxalate monohydrate has been shown to be effective in vitro by inhibiting crystal formation and increasing dissolution rates of calcium oxalate crystals. The experimental model was developed using Langmuir adsorption isotherm and caspase-independent cell death was observed in human serum. Calcium oxalate monohydrate also shows inhibitory properties against tubulointerstitial injury and its phase transition temperature is at 37 °C, so it can be used as an implantable material.
