It is a colorless solid with a melting point of about 175°C. The CBT molecule contains four cyclohexane rings, two alkylthio groups, and one chlorine atom. This chemical is used in the production of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes, which are particles with a high thermal expansion coefficient and light emission properties. CBT has been found to have chloride-containing compounds in its structure. When heated to high temperatures, these compounds decompose and produce gaseous products such as hydrogen chloride and hydrogen bromide.
