Cinobufagin is a bioactive compound that has been shown to induce apoptosis in human osteosarcoma cells and other cell lines. It has also been reported to regulate cellular metabolism and autophagy by altering the energy metabolism. Cinobufagin is a natural product found in the venom of the Malayan pit viper, Protobothrops cincooeruleus. The molecular weight of cinobufagin is 536.5 Da, and it is composed of two aromatic rings with an ester bond at the 8-position. Cinobufagin was purified using preparative high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) followed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS).
