Product Information
The magnesium bromide solution is used for the cross-coupling of aryl halides with organometallic reagents. It is prepared by adding magnesium metal to an aqueous solution of bromide ions, which is then mixed with THF. The reaction proceeds by addition of the organometallic reagent and copper iodide to the Grignard reagent. The reaction product is a mixture of alcohols, ethers, esters, and ketones. This process can also be used in organic synthesis as well as polymerization reactions that require an inorganic catalyst. The magnesium bromide solution is highly resistant to trifluoroacetic acid, which makes it ideal for use with carbenes and monoclonal antibodies.
