Description:
7,8-Dihydroxyisoflavone is a phenolic compound that is a precursor to coniferyl alcohol. It has been shown that 7,8-dihydroxyisoflavone can be oxidized to form catechol and hydroxycinnamic acid by coupling with oxygen. This compound can also be converted to xanthocercin by coupling with another molecule of 7,8-dihydroxyisoflavone. The oxidative coupling reaction can be accomplished by using spectroscopic methods or regiospecific synthetic methods.
