Description

1,4-Dimethylbenzene is a solvent that is used for the treatment of wastewater. It reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form polymeric materials. FTIR spectroscopy was used to determine the reaction mechanism and the chemical substances present in 1,4-dimethylbenzene. The product of this reaction is a polymer with an intramolecular hydrogen bond. This polymer has been shown to be an effective catalyst in flow systems with solid catalysts and also can act as a catalyst in low-energy reactions.
