Description

Europine HCl is a purified preparation of dextran sulfate with low potency. It has been shown to reduce the severity of bowel disease by reducing the fecal volume and frequency in rats. Europine HCl also possesses protease activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit inflammation and hemolysis in liver cells. It has been shown to have no effect on rat liver microsomes, but does show an inhibitory effect on protease activity when tested against human plasma. Europine HCl can be used as a preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analytical method for detecting proteinaceous compounds that are difficult to separate from other components. This chemical is acidic and may cause metabolic disorders such as lactic acidosis or fat accumulation in the liver.
