Enzastaurin is a bicyclic heterocycle that is used in the treatment of cancer. It inhibits the enzymatic activity of protein kinase C and other enzymes, which are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells. Enzastaurin has been shown to inhibit tumor growth by suppressing angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels from existing ones. This drug also has synergistic effects on cell killing with pemetrexed, an antifolate drug that inhibits folate synthesis. Enzastaurin is being investigated as a potential biomarker for radiation-induced cancers, as well as for its role in the molecular pathogenesis of T-cell lymphomas.
