Ethosuximide is a drug used as a treatment for epileptic seizures, which is chemically related to valproic acid. Ethosuximide has been shown to inhibit the production of DNA from streptococcal pharyngitis, which may be due to its ability to bind to the α1 subunit of DNA polymerase. It also inhibits the synthesis of protein in experimental models and human serum. Ethosuximide has long-term efficacy in animal studies and is well tolerated at low doses.
