Description:5-Fluorouracil is a cytotoxic drug used to treat cancer. It is a prodrug that is converted to 5-fluoro-2'-deoxyuridine 5'-triphosphate (5-FUdR) in cells, and inhibits RNA synthesis by interacting with the enzyme thymidylate synthase. This drug has minimal toxicity in humans and has shown promising results against wild-type strains of bacteria. 5-Fluorouracil also has demonstrated synergistic activity when combined with the taxane docetaxel in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. 5-Fluorouracil's oral prodrug, fluorouracil, can be administered as an alternative to intravenous administration.
