Description:

2-Furamide is a synthetic antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of furoates. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by competitively binding to their cell membranes, causing leakage of cellular contents and death. 2-Furamide has been shown to be effective against amoebae, which are responsible for causing amoebic dysentery, as well as other infectious diseases such as leprosy, malaria, and tuberculosis. This compound has minimal toxicity in mice and is not carcinogenic. 2-Furamide is also used in analytical methods for the determination of metronidazole or α7 nicotinic acetylcholine. The effect of this drug on mitochondria can be measured using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
