Fluocortolone pivalate is a combination drug preparation that contains the corticosteroid fluocortolone and the anti-inflammatory agent pivalic acid. Fluocortolone pivalate is used to treat inflammatory skin disorders, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, or eczema. The formulation has been shown to be effective in treating various autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases such as t-cell lymphomas. Fluocortolone pivalate also has long-term efficacy, with a duration of action of up to 3 weeks after discontinuation of treatment. It has been shown to be more effective than untreated group for symptoms such as itching and redness. However, this medication can cause negative drug interactions with other drugs including oral contraceptives, warfarin, and digoxin.
