(+) Fangchinoline is a natural compound that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties against infectious diseases, including HIV, and squamous carcinoma. (+) Fangchinoline has also been shown to induce apoptosis in human osteosarcoma cells and mda-mb-231 breast cancer cells. This compound induces the process of autophagy in these cells, which leads to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA replication. (+) Fangchinoline is also used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and cardiac arrhythmias. The mechanism of action for these diseases are not yet known.
