GLP-1 (9-36) amide trifluoroacetate is a peptide that is cleaved from the larger molecule GLP-1. It has potent effects on protein synthesis, inactivating the enzyme responsible for terminating translation. In addition, GLP-1 (9-36) amide trifluoroacetate has been shown to potently stimulate glucagon secretion and inhibit gastric emptying. GLP-1 (9-36) amide trifluoroacetate also increases intestinal glucose uptake and inhibits insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, leading to increased insulin sensitivity. This drug has been shown to have synaptic effects in the central nervous system. It is internalized by neurons and works through a receptor called "GLP-1 receptor". When activated by GLP-1(9-36) amide trifluoroacetate, this receptor leads to potentiation of glutamate responses in the brain.
