Product Information
Germanium(II) bromide is a compound that is synthesized artificially. It has been shown to be a potent activator of water molecules. Germanium(II) bromide reacts with water to produce hydrogen gas, which can be used as a fuel source. Synthesis of this compound requires a high activation energy and the reaction may not occur at all if the concentration of water molecules is too low or too high. The cavity in which germanium(II) bromide is located is believed to increase its activity by increasing the number of water molecules that can react with it. Crystal x-ray diffraction experiments have shown that germanium(II) bromide takes on an octahedral structure. This compound may also be useful for other applications, such as in microscopy and advances in materials science.
