Description

(+)-Gallocatechin gallate (GCG) is a natural plant compound that has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. It has been investigated as a potential treatment for human cancers and allergic symptoms. GCG has been shown to inhibit the production of metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in human HL-60 cells. It also inhibits the activity of MMP-2 in HL-60 cells and reduces the inflammatory response in mice with lung cancer. GCG is an effective inhibitor of reactive oxygen species, which may be due to its ability to scavenge free radicals. This agent also blocks the conversion of proton pumps into ATPases by inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential in cells.
