Glabridin is a natural compound that is found in licorice and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. It binds to the penicillin-binding protein of bacteria, which inhibits their growth. Glabridin also has pro-apoptotic properties and is able to induce apoptosis in various cells, including human erythrocytes. The molecular pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is not yet fully understood, but it may be related to the production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β, which are produced by macrophages. Glabridin can inhibit the expression of these cytokines and reduce the size of atherosclerotic lesions in mice.
