This compound has been shown to inhibit bacterial translocation in vivo, as well as prevent both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria from attaching to the intestinal wall. (R)-3-Hydroxydecanoic acid also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by human monocytes stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
