Hydrocortisone-17-butyrate is a drug used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and other infectious diseases. It is used in combination with other drugs to treat skin lesions, such as those that may be caused by an infection. Hydrocortisone-17-butyrate has been shown to be effective in treating cutaneous lesions in patients who are immunocompetent. The drug has also been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against human colon cancer cells. Hydrocortisone-17-butyrate is metabolized by hydroxylation, which can lead to unwanted side effects.
