Hederagenin is a natural product isolated from the bark of Quillaja saponaria. It has shown significant cytotoxicity against 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and HL-60 cells, and is able to induce apoptosis in these cells. Hederagenin also exhibits anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the expression of Bcl-2 protein in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Hederagenin has been found to be active against Candida glabrata, which is a fungus that can cause skin infections, but it does not have any effect on mouse tumor formation.
