Description:

3-Hydroxyisonicotinic acid (3HICA) is a reactive molecule that can form intramolecular hydrogen bonds with its functional groups. 3HICA has been shown to react with aluminium, forming aluminium hydroxide, and also has the ability to chelate metal ions such as iron, copper, and zinc. 3HICA can act as an antioxidant by scavenging reactive oxygen species such as hydroxyl radicals. In addition, 3HICA has been shown to inhibit the growth of human macrophages and primary cells in vitro. 3HICA's antimicrobial effects are due to its ability to inhibit bacterial dna gyrase and rna synthesis.
