4-Heptylbenzoic acid is a diphenolase that catalyzes the cleavage of phenolic compounds with a 4-heptyl substituent. This enzyme is used in the analysis of oil samples, such as naphthenic acid and solanum tuberosum. 4-Heptylbenzoic acid has been shown to react with magnetic particles at high salinity and is soluble in organic solvents. It has also been shown to have constant activity at pH 7 and a temperature range of −5°C to 50°C. The crystalline structure of this compound has also been determined using X-ray diffraction data collected on sephadex g-100.
