Lysozyme is a protein that has a molecular weight of 14000 Daltons and an enzyme activity of 45000 FIP/mg. It is found in the white of an egg, tears, saliva, and milk. Lysozyme has been shown to have a lytic effect on the cell walls of gram-positive bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bacillus brevis.
