Lysozyme is a protein that has a molecular weight of 14000 Daltons and an enzyme activity of 45000 FIP/mg. It is found in the white of an egg, tears, saliva, and milk. Lysozyme has been shown to have a lytic effect on the cell walls of gram-positive bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bacillus brevis. This protein has also been used for magnetic nanoparticle synthesis for cancer treatment. Lysozyme is also used in biomolecular screening, which involves using small-angle x-ray scattering to study the properties of proteins and other macromolecules.
