Description:Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine that binds to the benzodiazepine receptor in the central nervous system. This binding induces a variety of effects, including sedation, muscle relaxation, and suppression of anxiety. Lorazepam can be used as an antianxiety agent and as an adjunct to anesthesia. Lorazepam is metabolized by oxidation at the 3-position to produce lorazepam-3-glucuronide (LZG), which is excreted in urine. The major metabolic pathway involves glucuronidation followed by biliary excretion of LZG. Benzalkonium chloride has been used for analytical purposes in chromatographic analysis with minimal toxicity.
