Product Information

Name:
1-Myristoyl-rac-glycerol
Synonyms:
  • Monomyristin
Description:

1-Myristoyl-rac-glycerol is a fatty acid with a hydroxyl group and an antimicrobial effect. It has been shown to have clinical properties and is used in pharmaceutical preparations as an antimicrobial agent. 1-Myristoyl-rac-glycerol has been found to be active against gram negative bacteria such as E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, while being inactive against gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Bacillus subtilis. The antimicrobial activity of this compound is due to its ability to disrupt the integrity of bacterial cell membranes by acting on lipid synthesis. 1-Myristoyl-rac-glycerol also has hemolytic activity and can cause death in fungi and yeast cells. 1-Myristoyl-rac-glycerol is not metabolized by humans but may be metabolized by microbes such as Candida
