Osthole is a natural compound that has been found to have anti-cancer properties. Osthole is a monosodium salt of osthol and has been shown to inhibit the growth of colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. The mechanism by which osthole exerts its anticancer effects may be due to its ability to induce neuronal death and apoptosis in tumor cells. It also inhibits the production of pro-apoptotic proteins, such as Bax, and enhances the activity of dinucleotide phosphate (DNP), which is an important biochemical process for cell division. Osthole also possesses fluorescence properties that can be used as a probe for human serum.
