Obacunone is a coumarin derivative with potent anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme complex that produces dextran sulfate, which is involved in the inflammatory process. Obacunone also inhibits toll-like receptors on immune cells, preventing their activation by lipopolysaccharides. The matrix effect of this drug is significant and it has been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro. Obacunone also inhibits fructus ligustri, an enzyme that is involved in the production of prostaglandins that are associated with inflammation and pain. This compound has shown to have drug interactions with other drugs such as warfarin or cimetidine, which can reduce its efficacy.
