Description

Pitolisant is a drug used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It is an antagonist of histamine H3 receptors and increases the release of dopamine, which is deficient in Parkinson's disease. Pitolisant has been shown to be effective for treating infectious diseases such as influenza and encephalitis. This drug also has antioxidative properties that may protect against neuronal death. Pitolisant can be administered orally or injected intravenously, but it should not be taken with any drugs that are metabolized by CYP2D6 or CYP3A4 enzymes.
