Description:5β-Pregnane-3α,20α-diol is a human metabolite of estradiol that has been found to be an active inhibitor of the enzyme activity of GABA transaminase. It has been shown to have therapeutic potential in the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, as well as other cancers. 5β-Pregnane-3α,20α-diol has also been found to inhibit ovarian activity. The diagnostic method for this metabolite is based on monoclonal antibody (MAb) reactivity with immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Women who have high values for this metabolite may be at risk for uterine cancer or breast cancer.
