Rapanone is a natural compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It inhibits the growth of rat liver microsomes and mitochondrial membrane potential in vitro, which may be due to its ability to induce reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Rapanone also causes cells to undergo apoptosis by inhibiting the formation of ATP. This inhibition is caused by an increase in the intracellular concentration of adenosine monophosphate, which leads to a decrease in cellular respiration and ATP production. Rapanone has been found to have a hypoglycemic effect in mice. The drug also inhibits tumor growth in colorectal adenocarcinoma cells and reduces cell proliferation by inducing apoptosis through ROS-mediated mechanisms.
