Sn(IV) mesoporphyrin IX dichloride is a research chemical that has an analog structure to the compound porphyrin. It is soluble in solvents and can be used for the reduction of metal ions like Sn(IV). The reaction between Sn(IV) mesoporphyrin IX dichloride and SnCl2 yields a red-brown solution. It has been shown to reduce the expression of HO-1 protein in rats, which was induced by a resection of colon. The postoperative administration of this drug led to reduced levels of fluorescence in Sprague-Dawley rats.
